A block of Adams Street in downtown Tallahassee is about to be shut down for the rest of the year. The reason is for construction of a major addition to the DoubleTree Hotel.
The stretch of Adams between Park and College avenues will be closed this coming Monday and remain shut down through December. Motorists will be detoured around the block, which will soon be occupied by massive construction cranes. According to Shawn Roberts, chief operating office of Mad Dog Construction the prime contractor, the project entails building a bar atop the sixteen story hotel, which will be literally be serving the tallest drinks in town. The DoubleTree began life as the Tallahassee Hilton in 1972 and has had a number of renovations since then.
