County Commissioner John Dailey has filed to run for mayor of Tallahassee. The three-term commissioner enters a race that has had a revolving door of candidates.

The race for Mayor of Tallahassee has taken several unexpected turns in recent months. A strong candidate, City Commissioner Gil Ziffer, dropped his bid for the seat, and Senator Bill Montford refrained from entering the race despite heavy speculation he would.

Another familiar face in Capital City politics, County Commissioner John Dailey has thrown his hat into the ring. He acknowledged Tallahassee is facing what he calls some “tough challenges.”

“What I think is really important as a candidate for mayor is to really get out in the public, listen to what the public thinks are the most important issues facing out community and how we together as a City Commission and as a mayor can move the community forward,” Dailey said. “And that’s what I intend to do.”

Dailey says he expects the mayoral race to get more crowded going forward. Right now he faces two first-time candidates, Joe West and Erik David. In the meantime, the County Commission District 3 race is wide open.
