Hurricane Michael left more than 400,000 Floridians without power. The state-backed, Citizens Property insurance company sent more than 50 staff members into the hardest hit areas. Thursday officials with the company met by phone to review their post-hurricane efforts.
The CAT 4 Hurricane made landfall Wednesday October 10th and by that Friday Citizens had a Catastrophe Response Center or CRC up and running. CRC’s are mobile claims centers, where customers can go to file claims and receive initial payments for living expenses. Since then the company has disbursed more than $344,460.
The company is still at work in Panama City, one of the hardest hit areas, “We will be there through the end of Saturday. If we have policy holders that need to file a claim, we’ll take it. But also if they filed a claim and they have questions were going to be able to answer their questions file the claim and we also have adjusting resource officers on site too. And the ability if we need to cut an additional living check,” said Jeremy Pope, the Senior Director of Consumer & Policy Services.
Pope says that during these responses the company’s been able to help more than 250 policy holders out of 13,000 who were exposed to at least tropical storm force winds.
