Citizen Input Sought On Transportation Priorities

Locals living in Wakulla, Jefferson, Gadsden and Leon Counties have a chance to tell state officials this week what transportation projects are most important.

The Capitol Regional Transportation Planning Agency is putting together a list of transportation projects it thinks should get funding from the state department of transportation. During meetings this week in all four counties, citizens will have the chance to voice their opinions, and the agency’s Greg Burke says he hopes they do.

One perhaps example, a project that’s going to be constructed by the Florida DOT this fall is a safety crossing at Lake Ella on Monroe Street. And that’s certainly something our agency had proposed for a number of years but we held citizen meetings and public meetings and what we had were a lot of people supporting that project,” Burke says.

Burke says that support helped get the project pushed through. He says any comment given by citizens will be passed on to the agency’s board of directors before the board votes on the priorities in September.

Meeting Dates and Times:

Wakulla County: Aug. 24 12-1 p.m Wakulla County Commission Chambers

Gadsden County: Aug. 24 6-7 p.m. Gasden County Commission Chambers

Jefferson County: Aug. 25  12-1 p.m. Jefferson County Courthouse Annex

Leon County:  Aug. 25 6-7 p.m. Tallahassee City Hall, Tallahassee Room
