Capital Report: 04-24-2014

The Florida legislature has to put out a budget proposal by Tuesday if it wants to get out of Tallahassee on time but differences on several key parts of the proposal are slowing the process. Now as Lynn Hatter reports, the document is heading to the House and Senate appropriations chairmen to try and hammer out some of the finer points:

Lawmakers are moving quickly to get bills teed up for final passage as the clocks ticks quickly toward the final days of the legislative session. Regan McCarthy is keeping an eye on how some of those measures are shaping up on the Senate today.

The Florida House is now poised to vote on a newly merged pension reform proposal—a huge priority of House Speaker Will Weatherford. As Sascha Cordner reports, the bill that passed its only committee earlier this week was taken up on the floor Thursday over the objections of Democrats who oppose the measure.
