Capital Report: 04-14-2015

A last vestige from one of the darkest chapters in Florida’s history fell in the Senate Tuesday. As Jim Ash reports, the members took a largely ceremonial vote to wipe a 1977 ban on gay adoptions off the statute books.

State lawmakers approved new regulations for red light camera programs Tuesday, sending the proposal to the House floor.  And as with any good compromise, Nick Evans reports it seems almost no one’s happy. 

The House’s prison reform package is now heading to the floor, after passing its last committee Tuesday. But, as Sascha Cordner reports, even though the measure went through more changes, some say the bill—that still differs from its Senate counterpart—is now heading in the wrong direction.

While state officials await the restart of talks with the federal government over money supporting uninsured hospital visits, Keta Browning Reports, statewide business leaders head to the Capitol in support of the Senate’s proposed solution to healthcare expansion.

A Florida Senate health committee is the latest to sign off on a proposal to promote more telemedicine in the state.  But as Lynn Hatter reports, the conversation in the meeting room veered off into a terse exchange with the political action group Americans for Prosperity.

A bill that would require Vocational Rehabilitation to undergo tighter scrutiny cleared the Florida Senate today (Tuesday).  As Matthew Seeger reports, criticism of the job placement service means that VR will need to shape up or possibly be replaced.
