Opponents to Florida’s school choice are lining up against a proposal giving students with disabilities additional funding. Lynn Hatter reports they say while the intent of the bill is noble, they fear it will lead to an even greater segregation of Florida’s education system as a whole.

Florida election supervisors are looking at how to bring online voter registration to the state, the chance of legislative action on the issue went from tiny to nonexistent this week. As Jessica Palombo reports, the senator pushing online registration withdrew his bill amidst doubts it could pass the full Legislature. 

Florida’s Department of Children and Families is a step closer to adding an official who’d be tasked with reducing the number of children who dies after coming into contact with the agency.  As Stan Jastrzebski reports, two bills and a stack of amendments aimed at doing that were folded together today (Wednesday), but critics say they’re not sure how much it would cost or if the requirements for the new job are fully formed.

A bill allowing people to carry a concealed gun without the need for a concealed carry permit during a time of declared emergency has squeaked through a key Senate panel.  As Sascha Cordner reports, it’s a controversial issue that’s been stalled in the same committee for a couple of weeks.

In their effort to grow jobs in Florida, lawmakers are considering a move to help small businesses get loans. Regan McCarthy reports experts say the loans might be called “micro,” but the impact likely won’t be.
