Capital Report: 03-18-2015

Up to this point, Democrats in the Florida Legislature have presented a unified front in opposition to a bill allowing concealed weapons on public university and college campuses.  But Nick Evans reports Wednesday two Democratic house members broke with their caucus to support the plan.

Guns were a big topic in the legislature today. A proposal letting people carry firearms without a concealed carry permit during the evacuation of a declared state of emergency is teed up for a vote in the Senate—despite Democratic opposition. Sascha Cordner reports.

A bill overhauling Florida’s alimony rules has passed its first committee in the House. The move comes after Governor Rick Scott vetoed a similar effort at alimony reform a few years ago. But Regan McCarthy reports this year supporters of the bill say the measure strikes a better balance between the needs of families and those who pay alimony.
