Senate President Mike Haridopolos has been one of the biggest proponents in the prison privatization debate. Sascha Cordner takes a look as to why the Merritt Island Republican feels so strongly about privatizing the state correctional facilities in South Florida as well as his tactics in an all-out attempt to accomplish that. 

Pregnant women who are inmates in Florida’s jails have been forced to go through labor and even delivery in handcuffs and shackles.  James Call reports a bill moving through the legislature would prohibit using restraints on most prisoners who are pregnant during labor, delivery and postpartum recovery 

A Florida Senate Committee tackled a bill today (Tuesday) to prohibit lawmakers from working for a state college or university.  Tom Flanigan reports the bill failed after much impassioned discussion….

What started as a simple, charter school accountability bill quickly morphed into a debate over whether school districts should be required to share some of their funding. Lynn Hatter reports the effort follows a similar move adopted by the Senate last week on a similar funding mechanism to boost construction dollars to charter schools.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says she feels like she’s in the movie Ground Hog Day. Last year, Bondi successfully fought synthetic drugs, but this year, she is once again pushing to outlaw the substances. Regan McCarthy reports chemists have found loopholes to get the drugs back on the shelf, now lawmakers are working to fix the problem.
