The 2016 election is still fresh in the minds of voters, but candidates are already gearing up for 2018.

When one door closes, another one opens, right? More than 40 Floridians are already registering their candidacy with the Secretary of State – for the 2018 elections. U.S. Senator Bill Nelson’s seat is drawing contenders, as is the race to replace Florida’s term-limited Governor Rick Scott. Some North Florida candidates are queuing up for the State Legislature. Jantzen Craine and George Gainer are running in Senate District 2, Edwin Howard in House District 1 and Jayer Williamson in House District 3.

As a Tallahassee native, Kate Payne grew up listening to WFSU. She loves being part of a station that had such an impact on her. Kate is a graduate of the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts. With a background in documentary and narrative filmmaking, Kate has a broad range of multimedia experience. When she’s not working, you can find her rock climbing, cooking or hanging out with her cat.
