The days of the North Florida Fairgrounds being used as a fairgrounds may be numbered. Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey said he would open a discussion on a new future for the property at the Blueprint governing board meeting the afternoon of Thursday, Dec. 12.
The Mayor floated the idea during the previous day's joint meeting with Leon County government and school district leadership: turning the fairgrounds property into a multi-use development, possibly including affordable work-force housing, some retail and perhaps an indoor sports facility right next to Gene Cox Stadium.
"There are different opinions on some of the specifics," he said later. "I think we share a common goal that it is time for true redevelopment on the 100 acres known as the Fairgrounds."
Dailey plans to put the idea before Thursday afternoon's meeting of the Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency. It meets from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at City Hall.
