Governor Ron DeSantis says some additional relief is coming for communities hit by Hurricane Michael. After a meeting with President Donald Trump, DeSantis announced Thursday the Federal Emergency Management Agency will extend its period of reimbursement for debris cleanup costs.
"I’m pleased to announce that after meeting with the President on Tuesday, he agreed to extend that period of 100 percent reimbursement from five days to 45 days," DeSantis said at a press conference in Marianna.
DeSantis says there are about 25 million cubic square yards of debris left behind by Hurricane Michael. The Governor added there were $80 million dollars in debris costs for Mexico Beach alone.
State Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz says hundreds of millions of dollars will be relieved from local governments, and the state budget.
