Week of September 12th

The John G. Riley Center & Museum of African American History and Culture, presents, “From Africa to the Middle Passage,” a lecture, on September 15th, at the AC Hotel by Marriot at 6PM. Historian and Author, Velma Maia Thomas will discuss Africans before the slave trade, the economy of slavery and the history of the middle passage. The Florida State University Symphony Orchestra has a concert on September 16th, at 7:30PM, in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. They will be playing music by Copland, Prokofiev, and Brahms. Tickets and information are available at tickets.music.fsu.edu.

Theatre Tallahassee Presents, Tiny Beautiful Things, from September 16th through October 2nd. The play is based on the book of the same name by Cheryl Strayed. It is a collection of essays compiled from Strayed’s “Dear Sugar” advice column, which she wrote anonymously, on The Rumpus, an online literary magazine. The stories focus as much on her literary memoir as they do on advice and self-help. Tickets and Information can be found at theatretallahassee.org.

The Artist Series of Tallahassee has its season opener concert on September 18th, at 4PM, in FSU’s Opperman Music Hall. This concert will feature Jordan Bak on viola and Jihye Chang on piano. Tickets and information are available at the artistseries.org.
