Amidst load opposition from environmentalists and clean water advocates, a senate bill that runs counter to what they and Governor Ron DeSantis wanted in the way of Everglades restoration passed its only committee in that chamber today. Tom Flanigan has more.

Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo is expected to be soon confirmed by the full Florida Senate. Two Senate committees have recommended his confirmation despite marked frustration from Democrats. After Democrats walked out during Ladapo’s first confirmation committee hearing, a meeting before the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee Tuesday was extended in an effort to give lawmakers more time to ask questions.

Fair elections advocates are continuing to blast Governor Ron DeSantis’ proposed congressional plan and his ask for the state Supreme Court to opine on north Florida’s only African American voting district. As Valerie Crowder reports, the issue came up today [Wednesday] during a virtual press conference with the nonpartisan government watchdog group Common Cause.

The Jefferson County School District is free from state financial oversight. As Sarah Mueller reports, it’s a huge step in the district’s quest to achieve complete independence following years of being run by an outside, charter school operator.
