Kaomi Goetz

Kaomi is an award-winning journalist whose love for telling stories began during her childhood in Minnesota, where she spent countless hours writing and illustrating "books" with reams of paper requested from her parents. These days, her focus is decidedly on non-fiction, believing that some of the best stories to be told are true. Her work for the WSHU Public Radio Group is foused on Fairfield County, but she is heard regularly on all of our frequencies as well as on NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered.  She's also reported for Planet Money, The World, Marketplace, Latino USA and WNYC's Studio 360. Kaomi is a graduate of Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.

  • The coffee giant recently partnered with the Rodarte fashion house to offer a holiday collection. It's the latest example of high-end designers teaming up with mass-market retailers to make money while showing their work to a broader audience.
  • Headphones have become common in the workplace, allowing people to tune out their co-workers. But in many cases, those same co-workers are still communicating — online. Critics say technology is letting us hide from one another, but in one case study workers who posted on an internal company blog actually increased productivity.
  • With cellphones nearly ubiquitous, fewer people are relying on watches to tell time. But some retailers are doing brisk business marketing watches as fashion statements, or by appealing to shoppers' sense of novelty or nostalgia.
  • Many freelance workers opt to work in co-working spaces, where they rent cubicles and other office resources by the day or the month. Now, some companies, in an attempt to promote a certain environment, are becoming increasingly selective about who can work in their space.
