A recent poll of Florida voters shows Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton ahead of Republican Donald Trump. But the results suggest third party voters are chipping away at Clinton’s lead.
When University of North Florida pollsters questioned likely voters on the two main candidates, Clinton outstripped Trump by 7 points. When surveyors added candidates Jill Stein and Gary Johnson to the list, Clinton lost 4 points. UNF political scientist Michael Binder oversaw the poll.
“It’s gonna be difficult for Trump to really go expand beyond the numbers that he has. Because those people that look like they’re potentially moveable, they’re not going to Trump. They’re either going to Clinton or they’re going to these third party candidates,” he said.
While the results show swing voters cutting into Clinton’s lead for now, Binder says third party candidates do better in the polls than at the ballot box.
