A former Florida A&M University admissions officer is charged with felony bribery and has been placed on administrative leave from his current job with the Leon County School District. Leman Ulee turned himself in Tuesday.

Ulee is charged with two counts of bribery and one count of official misconduct. According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Ulee charged families of prospective students who weren’t eligible for admission into FAMU to alter their academic records. The University became aware of Ulee’s actions and reported it to FDLE which began an investigation in March. Ulee was placed on leave on April and fired in August.
“FAMU worked collaboratively with FDLE investigators. We thank them for working to bring closure to this case, and encourage students and parents with knowledge of such illegal activity to contact state investigators," said FAMU Vice President for Student Affairs, William Hudson Jr.
It’s not known how many students were affected, but FDLE says they may have been unaware of the scam and assumed the additional charges were university-related.
“There are additional students, maybe both current and former students and their families, who don’t even realize that they have been scammed at this point,” said FDLE Spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger.
“We are asking anyone with any information about this case to please come forward and they can do that by contacting FDLE’s Tallahassee office.”
Plessinger says Ulee charged families between $300 and $500 in additional fees as part of the scam.
He was hired in August by Leon County Schools but a spokesman says he’s now on paid administrative leave following a review of his actions. He could be fired from the district for being charged with a felony.
