Valdosta State University

Tallahassee Community College (TCC) and Valdosta State University (VSU) are partnering to simplify student transition between the two schools.

The agreements will allow TCC students with an Associate’s degree and the required grade point average to gain admission to VSU and pay in-state tuition. VSU’s Joe Weaver says the programs are a part of his school’s effort to bring non-traditional students into the Georgia university system.

Florida Residents in some counties bordering Georgia can go to school at Valdosta State University and pay in-state tuition.

The in-state rate applies to residents of Leon, Baker, Columbia, Hamilton, Jefferson, Madison and Nassau counties. That comes to about $3,500 a year for a person who takes 15 credit hours a semester, about the same as what it would  cost to attend Florida State.

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Valdosta State University has received a major grant for the second time. The grant money will fund scholarships to help diversify and increase the nursing workforce.

Valdosta State University is getting $50,000 from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help new nursing students pay for school. Through the foundation’s grant, VSU will award funding to aspiring nurses who already have a bachelors degree in another field.

Keep Thomas County Beautiful

The deadline has been extended for a survey asking residents of Thomas County, Georgia their opinion of both the litter and the cost of litter cleanup for the area. The survey’s authors want to know how residents feel they’ll get the best bang for their garbage-collecting buck.
