Update 7:43 p.m.: Florida State University football quarterback Jameis Winston is trading in his college career for a professional paycheck, and he's leaving FSU with a lawsuit on its hands.

In a statement issued through his agency, Winston thanks the university and fans for making his time in Tallahassee, “the best time of my life.”

The FSU quarterback is widely considered a top draft pick. His only defeat in two seasons at Florida State came recently-- with a playoff loss to Oregon on New Year’s Day.

Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston’s student code of conduct hearing ended Wednesday after two days.  Winston and the former FSU student who accused him of sexual assault each presented their side of the case to a hearing officer.

On the second day, the FSU police officer who first responded to the 2012 sexual assault allegation spoke in front of hearing officer Major Harding, a retired Florida Supreme Court Justice. Also at the hearing Wednesday was an investigator from the state attorney’s office which did not file criminal charges in December of 2013.

Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston's student code of conduct hearing began on campus Tuesday. He and the former FSU student who accused him of sexual assault each presented their side of the case to a hearing officer.

The hearing comes a year after State Attorney Willie Meggs declined to press charges against Winston for a 2012 sexual assault allegation. A probe by the Tallahassee Police Department languished for months.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — In a letter obtained by The Associated Press, the adviser for the family of Jameis Winston has asked Florida State why it has chosen now to engage in the Title IX process and accuses the school of trying to protect its own interests and responding to media pressure.

Florida State announced last week it will use an independent official in a student code of conduct hearing. A female student said Winston sexually assaulted her in December 2012.

Florida State’s four presidential finalists have been attending sessions this week answering questions from the university community. In the third such meeting, Martin called FSU’s Title IX investigation an invitation to be more inclusive.

One of Florida State University’s biggest athletic stars may also be one of the school’s biggest liabilities. The federal government is now probing the school’s handling of sexual assault and harassment allegations against Jameis Winston—using a portion of federal law traditionally governing equal access in sports.
