There’s only one meeting left, before final recommendations are made on a memorial for the unclaimed remains of boys who died at the Dozier School for Boys in the Florida Panhandle. So far, there’ve been a lot of disagreements among Dozier Task force members. But, during their first meeting, there was at least one memorial all sides did agree on.

Just off the heels of Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet receiving their final report on the Dozier School for Boys, another Florida Governor is throwing his weight behind reburial efforts in the form of two bills that passed Tuesday.

Two Florida lawmakers hope to keep the conversation going to help families searching for answers about their loved ones, buried on the now-closed Dozier School for Boys.

Local health community leaders are hoping to get more input about major issues of concern to people living in the Frenchtown and Southside areas. They’re also hoping more people will join a Community Advisory Council looking into such issues.

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s office is offering a $1,000 reward for any information regarding possible hate crimes at two predominately black churches and a box truck outside a country club in Crawfordville over the weekend.

“And, I’ve had people calling in to want to donate to the award, which does my heart good, thinking that people are civic-minded enough to want to do like I want to do, which is to bring out community together and everyone get along, which is my major goal,” said Creel.
