A Florida Senate Panel has voted down a plan to allow recovery care centers in Florida. The facilities provide nursing care for people recently discharged from hospitals or those in need of post-operative care.

Florida lawmakers are starting to put the pieces of the state’s healthcare puzzle together and the picture could involve changes for hospitals, nursing homes, hospice centers and other long-term care facilities.

Florida lawmakers are poised to take up healthcare access and affordability issues, and that includes reviving pieces of a failed state healthcare reform plan. Ambulatory care centers, recovery care centers and direct primary care could get a second look.

A revamped health care agenda is starting to take shape ahead of next year’s lawmaking session. Last regular session The Florida House and Senate clashed over whether to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

Florida’s Medicaid costs will go up next year. Enrollment in the program that insurers low-income Floridians continues to grow even without a legislative move to expanding it to people who qualify under the Affordable Care Act. Now  lawmakers are feeling the pressure to put cost controls in place.
