Even those who love history sometimes admit that just reading about it can be a bit dull.  But history fans can enjoy a fully immersive historical experience at Tallahassee's Railroad Square this weekend.


A Tallahassee art space is facing tough times. The 621 Gallery in Railroad Square is trying to rally its supporters to the cause of survival.

The exploding development along and near Tallahassee’s Gaines Street corridor isn’t limited to student rentals. A shiny new hotel will soon open a block away on Railroad Avenue.

Tallahassee's Railroad Square Art Park hosted its annual Artisgras Festival on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Music included the Lofty Pursuits Marching Band, while Adrian Foglin with the duo "Hot Tamale" was happy to play and talk about her group's new song "Red Betty."

"My husband's family said to the kid sister, whose name was Betty, 'Red Betty, get the bed ready!' We obviously altered it considerably for this song," she laughed.

Lucrezia Bieler said all the activities meant more people to stop by her South of SoHo Gallery.

A new all-you-can-play pinball arcade is opening in Tallahassee.  Pinball wizards can flex their flippers starting Friday.

That’s because the city of Tallahassee plans its road construction projects after the departure of college students who leave on summer break and with the end of the Legislative Session. But officials aren’t changing their plans for the special session starting in June.

The Tallahassee shared workspace called Making Awesome has moved into a new home in the Railroad Square Art Park. The member-supported organization had to leave its former warehouse this month after rent got too steep.

Making Awesome had operated for about two years in a building Tallahassee Community College owns near the western edge of campus. Co-founder Brad Harris says at first the impending move was unwelcome. But now, “this could all turn out to be one of the best things to happen to us," he says.

Leon County and Tallahassee planners are proposing a makeover for the old Amtrak station and surrounding areas on Railroad Avenue south of Gaines Street. The County Commission will discuss the plans at their Tuesday afternoon meeting.
