Senator Dwight Bullard of Miami-Dade has been trying for years to have Florida regulate plastic bags, with little success. The Environmental Preservation and Conservation Committee* has approved a similar bill sponsored by Bullard that may do the next best thing- allow individual communities to create their own policies.

Two Florida lawmakers are hoping to revive a bill that failed during the past legislative session repealing Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. But, as Sascha Cordner reports, some say the law should remain intact and see it as a waste of time.

Acknowledging the ticking clock winding down the 2014 legislative session, the sponsor of a bill allowing local governments to regulate plastic bag use has withdrawn his measure from consideration. Florida cities currently are prohibited from making rules discouraging the use of plastic carryout bags, as cities in other states have done.
