Panama City State Representative Jay Trumball’s legislation makes it easier to set up more trauma centers in the state. But hospitals say it will destroy the quality of care patients get. Doctors took to the Capitol Tuesday to oppose the measure.

HCA, the nation’s biggest private hospital chain, is once again under investigation by the federal government—this time for potentially performing unnecessary and dangerous heart procedures to boost profits, mainly in Florida, where the company does about 20 percent of its business. The investigation comes after the company uncovered questionable procedures on its own and apparently failed to report them to regulators or insurers, as required by law.

The Florida Department of Education is following up on its controversial ranking of school districts, by ranking individual schools. Lynn Hatter reports the results have charter schools and specialty schools taking up a large chunk of the top 10 list of public schools in the state.
