DCF's childcare guidebook now availible online

DCF is now posting its parenting guidebook, "Family Development -- A Caregiver’s Guide” online
Department of Children and Families

The Florida Department of Children and Families is releasing an online guide that gives tips to parents on how to keep children safe and healthy.  As Sascha Cordner reports, it’s the first time the book, which was previously available in hardcopy, will be available for free online.

Dentists decry Medicaid's toothache

The Florida Dental Association has released a “white paper” on access and the impact of dentistry in Florida. The study says 70-percent of Floridians have no problems finding dentists to care for their needs. But Lynn Hatter reports for the people who can’t find dental care, the greatest gap is in the state’s Medicaid program, and the children who are covered by it.

KidCare enrollment hits all-time high

More than two million Florida children are now enrolled in the state’s health insurance program for low income kids. Regan McCarthy reports the organization hit a record number of participants in March.

Florida Healthy Kids Executive Director Rich Robleto says the increased number of kids getting enrolled in the state’s Kidcare program is a good thing.

Anti-abortion groups push passage of Amendment Six

An anti-abortion group is asking Floridians to approve amendment six when they see it on the ballot this year. Regan McCarthy reports the proposed amendment would prohibit tax payer dollars from being used to fund abortions except in certain cases like rape. It would also pave the way for lawmakers to pass legislation that requires parents to give their consent before their minor child undergoes an abortion.
