Even before Memorial Day, Tallahassee was celebrating our veterans. The Tallahassee National Cemetery was dedicated Friday.

This Friday, dedication ceremonies take place for the Tallahassee National Cemetery between Apalachee Parkway and Old Saint Augustine Road.  The facility has been designed to serve the needs of veterans and their families for the next hundred years.

A bill making it easier for disabled veterans to renew or replace disabled parking permits is now heading to the Senate floor. Its sponsor is Senate Democratic Leader Arthenia Joyner (D-Tampa).

“After the initial certification for a disabled parking permit, which meets the statutory standards, this bill would require qualified veterans to submit form 27-333 in lieu of a certificate of disability for subsequent renewals or a replacement of the permit,” said Joyner.

Want to make sure you get the chance to thank a veteran for their service? The Florida Department of State is teaming up with the state Department of Veteran’s Affairs and other groups to help send thank you letters to veterans during the month of November.

St. Lucie County is one step closer to becoming the next site for Florida’s newest veterans’ nursing home. That’s after several counties lobbied members of a select panel considering the next location to build the state’s seventh VA nursing home.

Governor Rick Scott has signed a bill into law redesigning military and veteran specialty license plates as well as updating references to certain wars under Florida’s statute.

The bill signed Thursday contains several provisions, including renaming the Korean Conflict Veteran special license plate to “Korean War.” Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs Spokesman Steve Murray says it also makes that change in Florida statute along with replacing references to the “Vietnam Era.”
