A former head football coach for Florida A&M University is suing FAMU for wrongful termination.

Earl Holmes says he wants what he believes is owed to him.

FAMU fired Holmes in October just days before the annual homecoming football game, following a string of losses. Now Holmes’ attorney, Tim Jansen, says the university owes his client for terminating Holmes’ contract early. Jansen blames former Athletic Director Kellen Winslow.

Governor Rick Scott’s tightly scripted inaugural ceremony began with a heavy dose of scripture on Tuesday.

Scott was serenaded by church choirs and prayed for by clergy from across the state at an early morning prayer breakfast at Florida A&M University.

Pam Olsen, pastor of the International House of Prayer of Tallahassee, urged the public to ask that Scott receive divine guidance.

Olsen has never been shy about her beliefs. She and her supporters erected a nativity scene this year at the Florida Capitol.

Florida A&M University is seeing a spike in fundraising revenue.

The university is more than halfway to its goal for the current fiscal year, and the money comes as the school weighs salary increases for its faculty.

FAMU has raised $2.8 million since President Elmira Mangum arrived on the job in April. That's in addition to another $20 million in the form of research funding. The school set a $5.5 million fundraising goal and as Magnum says, most of the donors have been alumni.

Attorneys are set to give closing arguments in the case of a former Florida A&M University band member charged with manslaughter and hazing in the death of a drum major who was beaten on a band bus during a hazing ritual.

Once they're finished, Judge Renee Roche will give the jurors final instructions and deliberations could begin sometime Friday.

Prosecutors called eight witnesses, including former band members who identified 27-year Dante Martin as orchestrator of the ritual known as "crossing Bus C" after a football game in Orlando in 2011.

Florida A&M University has parted ways with Rattlers head football coach Earl Holmes. The school says it’s time to take its football team in a new direction.

FAM-U Hall of Famer and former pro linebacker Earl Holmes’ was let go days before the school’s homecoming weekend. Holmes shook hands with players and gave goodbyes Tuesday in an emotional exit from the school. FAM-U spokesman Jimmy Miller says Holmes has been placed on a leave of absence until his contract ends in January.

There will be no plea deal for one of the four remaining defendants facing manslaughter charges in the 2011 hazing death of a Florida A&M University band drum major.

The trial for the final four FAMU band members charged in the hazing death of drum major Robert Champion starts next week.

An attorney for Benjamin McNamee told Judge Rene Roche on Wednesday that his client would consider a plea deal if it could be done before the judge who had handled the case previously, but Roche rejected the idea.

The four remaining defendants in the hazing death of a Florida A&M University marching band drum major are about to go on trial, and their attorneys argue what happened to Robert Champion was part of a contest.

Defense attorneys are making a case that Florida's anti-hazing law is so vague that what happened to Champion wasn't hazing but part of a contest.

The defense is asking a judge for a hearing challenging the anti-hazing law. Circuit Judge Rene Roche set a hearing a week before the defendants' Oct. 27 trial.
