Feds Monitor More Polling Places in Fla Election Day Than Any Other State

The U.S. Justice Department is monitoring polling places in 51 counties in 23 states on Election Day. Officials are looking out for election fraud and possible violations of the federal voting rights laws. Several of those counties are in the Central and South Florida areas.

Fla. Top Elections Official: State Could See Record Voter Turnout Today

Today, Floridians are casting their ballots at more than 6,000 precincts around the state with no major problems so far. That's according to Florida's top elections official, Secretary of State Ken Detzner, who says, as many as 50 percent of voters might have already cast their ballots before election day. 

By the time polls opened this morning, 4.5 million Floridians had already cast absentee or early votes. And today, he says, turnout continues to be strong in this highly anticipated election.

Maria Sachs wins re-election for Florida Senate over Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff.

Getting word that in Miami, people are still voting as of 12:30 am.

2012 State And Regional Races To Watch

STATE:

Maria Sachs vs. Ellyn Bogdanoff—SB 34

Both Sachs and Bogdanoff are fighting for their political lives after redistricting placed the two sitting state senators in the same district.

Republican Bogdanoff of Fort Lauderdale and Democrat Sachs of Delray Beach are vying for a coastal district that includes parts of Broward and Palm Beach Counties.  While the District trends Democratic, It’s a must-win for Republicans if they want to keep their two-thirds majority in the state senate.

While some say they’re grateful they could avoid the expected long lines of Election Day, others say the lines may not be so long.
