There’s only one meeting left, before final recommendations are made on a memorial for the unclaimed remains of boys who died at the Dozier School for Boys in the Florida Panhandle. So far, there’ve been a lot of disagreements among Dozier Task force members. But, during their first meeting, there was at least one memorial all sides did agree on.

Just off the heels of Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet receiving their final report on the Dozier School for Boys, another Florida Governor is throwing his weight behind reburial efforts in the form of two bills that passed Tuesday.

Two Florida lawmakers hope to keep the conversation going to help families searching for answers about their loved ones, buried on the now-closed Dozier School for Boys.

The Florida Cabinet as well as stakeholders involved in the issue are reviving a discussion about what should be done with the now defunct Dozier School for Boys, surrounded by allegations of abuse and deaths over the course of a century.

Florida civil rights activists are planning a statewide campaign to rid government buildings of Confederate symbols. NAACP Tallahassee branch president Dale Landry says organizers have been monitoring clashes over displaying the Civil War banner in the Panhandle and rural parts of the state.
