Smith Not Deterred By Gaetz’s Rejection Of Forming Stand Your Ground Select Committee

Florida Senate Minority leader Chris Smith says he’s not giving up on getting a bipartisan group of lawmakers to take a look at the state’s Stand Your Ground law, despite being turned down by the Senate President Tuesday. Smith wanted Don Gaetz to form a select committee, but Gaetz rejected that request.

Scott signs "Caylee's Law"

A bill inspired by the Casey Anthony trial received approval from the Governor Friday. As Sascha Cordner reports, the sponsor of “Caylee’s Law” says he’s happy there will now be increased penalties for people who lie to law enforcement during a missing child investigation.

When Orlando mother Casey Anthony lied to law enforcement officers during the investigation of her missing two-year-old Caylee Anthony, it got the attention of Republican Representative Jose Diaz. He remembers getting emotional on the floor as he talked about what this legislation meant to him.

House panel clears bills on Caylee Anthony, pregnant inmates

Pregnant women who are inmates in Florida’s jails have been forced to go through labor and even delivery in handcuffs and shackles.  James Call reports a bill moving through the legislature would prohibit using restraints on most prisoners who are pregnant during labor, delivery and postpartum recovery.

Tampa Representative Betty Reed is the mother of five. Rather than rely on her own experience she said she went and talk to many women about giving birth.
