Women’s Hall Of Fame Deadline Is Tuesday

Tuesday is the last day to submit nominations for the Florida Women’s hall of fame. The designation recognizes the contributions women have made in Florida for more than 30 years.

Last year’s Women’s Hall of Fame inductees include the state’s first elected female sheriff  and the first female member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida to earn a college degree. Commission on the Status of Women Chair Yvonn Fry says the hall of fame aims to recognize women who have made significant contributions in their fields, helped to elevate the status of women or improved the quality of life for the state’s citizens.

“There’s still a lot of firsts that women are experiencing and even in this day and age when we’ve come so far with opportunity and new roles for women and so on there’s still a lot of ground that we’re breaking and that we want to celebrate," Fry says.

Anyone is welcome to nominate a women who can be either living or deceased. The Commission on the status of women will narrow down the list of possible candidates. The Governor makes the final selection of up to three inductees.
