Winter Storm Could Spawn Tornadoes In Tallahassee Tuesday

Florida Public Radio Emergency Network

Forecasters say severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible in the Tallahassee area tomorrow. The threat is greatest close to the coast from Panama City to the Big Bend.

The National Weather Service predicts rain in Tallahassee from early Tuesday morning until at least sundown. However, meteorologist Jeff Fournier says the greatest threat is at the coast. But he says a wide swath of land from the Gulf Coast to South Central Georgia could see severe weather more associated with summer conditions.

“It could either be a severe thunderstorm watch or a tornado watch. And we would be mainly for damaging winds and possibly even a tornado," he says.

Fournier expects the system to be past Tallahassee by Tuesday night.
