Voting On New Florida License Plate Design Starts Today

Nov 26, 2012

Floridians now have the opportunity to vote on their favorite license plate design online. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is asking residents to do their part to upgrade Florida’s tags.

Residents can choose between four designs. And, Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Spokeswoman Kirsten Olsen-Doolan says a panel of about 20 people, ranging from law enforcement officers to tax collectors, helped to design the new plates.

“Being able to have a flat plate that has bold lettering on a reflective surface is really important for readability for law enforcement and we also needed to consider going to a seven-digit configuration because the easily manufactured six digits were running out," said Olsen-Doolan. "So, we need seven to go forward because these tags are good for 10 years. So, looking into the future, we needed a new tag.”

The web site to vote on the new tags is www.Vote4FloridaTag.com. Voting opened November 26th and will end December 14th.
