Trial Date Set in Christina West Excessive Use Of Police Force Case

Sascha Cordner

Officials have set a hearing date for a Tallahassee woman who’s suing the city for excessive use of force. That date is set for May of 2015.

A video from a camera installed on a patrol car’s dash shows officers slamming a slight Christina West into the hood of a car then onto the ground. West suffered broken bones, cuts and bruises. Officers say West slipped out of her handcuffs and they needed to take steps to subdue her. A Grand jury cleared the officers of any criminal wrong doing, but some experts think that finding won’t impact the civil case since each type of case looks at the incident from a different angle.

West’s lawyer says the timeframe for the case is typical, adding that all sides agreed to the May hearings.West was arrested for driving under the influence after she crashed her car into a Killearn house last August.
