Thrasher Supporters Launch Website Promoting His FSU Presidential Bid

Sep 11, 2014

As Florida State University nears the final stretch in its search for a new president, a new website has popped up promoting the most controversial candidate—State Senator John Thrasher.

During the course of FSU’s presidential search, many students have been vocal in their opposition to the candidacy of Senator John Thrasher citing his lack of academic credentials and higher education experience. FSU student representatives on the search committee have voted in opposition to Thrasher consistently. But now another group has started a website called SupportJohnThrasher.com, with a goal of boosting the senators bid to be president of his alma mater.

In a statement the group says it’s trying to highlight, “student leaders stands in contrast to the negative way many others have approached this search.”

The website also includes comments falsely attributed to members of the presidential search committee.

The final four candidates will face a new round of interviews starting September 15. The search committee wants to submit a recommendation to the university’s board of trustees by the end of next week. A new president could be named shortly after.
