The Capital City threw a big "welcome students" party at Cascades Park Saturday evening. Thousands of new and returning students from FSU, FAMU and TCC responded to the invitation.
Those students included FSU's Andrew May, a senior accounting major from Tampa.
“Free food, just checking it out and here to have some fun,” he cited as his motivation for showing up.
His friend, Genivieve from Jacksonville, was excited to hear FSU's Marching Chiefs play again.
“It feels good!” she said. “Especially as a senior, it feels nostalgic.”
Among the many local government booths, Volunteer Leon's Jeri Bush.
“That’s what we’re here to do is connect students with service and become part of our citizens through service and engagement,” she explained.
The main driver for the event was the Town and Gown Committee, which is working for stronger connections between Tallahassee's academic community and the community at large.
