Talquin Electric Cooperative Issues Boil Notice

Scott Akerman

Talquin Electric Officials are urging customers to boil water before drinking it after a water main break Wednesday morning near Longview Drive in Tallahassee.

Officials estimate about 108 people could be affected by the water main break, but emphasize the boil notice applies only to members of the Talquin Electric Cooperative along Longview Drive. Talquin says those customers should bring water to a rolling boil, allow it to boil for about a minute and then cool before drinking. The company cautions the water could also contain sediment that might discolor clothes or damage appliances and recommend letting an outside spigot or bathtub run before operating dishwashers and washing machines. Officials expect the precautionary boil notice to stay in effect for an estimated 36 hours while samples are tested for bacteria, but encourage customers to call the company or check its website before returning to normal water use.
