Tallahassee has a new free shuttle service linking Downtown, Midtown, Collegetown and Cascades Park. The “Take the ‘T’” service combines old-fashioned-looking vehicles with the latest social media technology.
Tallahassee City Commissioner Nancy Miller was the prime driver for the service…even managing to snag the trolleys themselves at no charge.
“We were able to get Palm Beach to send up some trolleys that they were no longer using and then we rehabbed them and here they are today,” she said during Monday's (2/20) rollout.
The trolleys will run weekdays from 11:45 until 2:15. Matt Thompson, who runs Collegetown’s Madison Social, saw that bringing lots of new patrons to his establishment.
“With the ability to have 30 to 40,000 downtown employees to come to our area for lunch, it kind of was a no-brainer,” he said.
The trolleys will also run Fridays and Saturdays from 4:30 in the afternoon until 1:00 in the morning. And Downtown Improvement Authority CEO Paige Carter-Smith said they’ll be easy to find from the city’s website.
“You can bookmark it and know exactly where the trolleys are at any given time so you can see when the trolley is about to be at your location.”
