Results for the 10th grade English-Language Arts Florida Standards Assessment, are in. And students performed largely the same as they did under the old FCAT exam. As the FSA undergoes an evaluation to see if it’s a valid measure of student ability, the state is using it to determine students graduate from high school.

Some 54percent of students passed the FSA—while about 55 percent passed last year’s FCAT. The results come as Florida officials try to determine what’s actually considered a “passing” score on the new FSA. To get an idea education officials used the scoring rubric from the FCAT 2.0 exam, on the new FSA.
The state says students won’t be penalized if their scores change when the scoring system is set for the new exam.
In Leon County, 58 percent of 10th graders passed the exam. Wakulla saw a 6-percent passage rate, while Gadsden and Jefferson saw passage rates in the 20-percent range.
The state also released scores for the new Algebra 1 end of course test. 67 percent of students statewide passed the exam. In the Big Bend, the numbers were 38 percent in Gadsden, 25 percent n Jefferson 25 percent, 77 percent in Leon and 78 percent in Wakulla.
Both Algebra I and the 10th grade English Language Arts exam are graduation requirements.
