Sheriff's Office To Hold Candlelight Vigil For Slain Leon County Deputy Chris Smith

Leon County Sheriff's Office

The public is invited to attend a candlelight vigil tonight for the Leon County Sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed over the weekend.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office is holding the vigil to remember Deputy Chris Smith during a tribute this evening. Smith was killed when he and another deputy were ambushed by gunman Curtis Holley, as they responded to a house fire Saturday.

The vigil will be held at FSU’s Dick Howser Baseball Stadium around 7 p.m.

A funeral service for the 47-year-old will be held Tuesday at Bradfordville First Baptist Church on Thomasville Road at noon.

Meanwhile, city officials have postponed the “Shine on Gaines” block party event to unveil the big sculpture at the Gaines Street-Woodward Avenue roundabout.
