Sen. Bill Montford (D-Tallahassee) has filed a claims bill for a motorcyclist injured in an accident with a city bus.

Christopher Cannon was driving his motorcycle home from work, according to Senator Montford’s bill, when a Dial a Ride bus attempted to make a left hand turn in front of him.  Cannon had the right of way.

In the ensuing accident he was thrown from his bike, broke three bones in his leg including the femur, suffered a bruised lung and a lacerated kidney and spleen.  After mediation, a court approved a $700,000 settlement.

The city of Tallahassee has already paid the $200,000 it’s allowed under law.  Montford’s bill would allow the city to pay the additional half million dollars.
