Secret Redistricting Docs To Become Public Unless SCOTUS Intervenes

Nov 21, 2014

The Florida Supreme Court has agreed to postpone the release of redistricting documents created by a Republican consultant.

Unless the U.S. Supreme Court intervenes, the documents will become public  December 1.

The documents created by a GOP Consulting firm influenced a decision this summer by a Leon County Circuit judge to throw out the state’s Congressional district map. The judge ruled the 2012 map created by the Republican-led Florida legislature violated the state’s anti-gerrymandering laws. However, the evidence has remained sealed because Pat Bainter sued to keep his firm’s emails and maps secret.

The state Supreme Court ruled against him last week.
