Governor Rick Scott is embarking on his eighth international trade mission trip this week. He’s leading a trade delegation of about 100 people to Chile.
Tuesday marks the start of Scott’s three-day trade mission to Santiago, Chile. The Governor says his goal is to grow jobs for Florida families by increasing the state’s trade with Chile, and he’ll be doing that with the help of business leaders and interested stakeholders.
“On this trip, we’ll take about a 100 leaders from around the state, and say how do we export more to Chile? How do we import more to Chile? How do we get more individuals from Chile or companies from Chile to invest more in our state," asked Scott.
"We sell them a lot of technology equipment, aviation equipment, communication equipment, transportation equipment. We import things from there: a lot of copper, Chilean Sea Bass, Chilean Salmon, and things like that.”
Chile, one of Florida lead trading partners, ranks sixth among the state’s top export destinations. This is also not Scott’s first trade mission to a Latin American country. In the last two years, he’s been to Colombia and Brazil.
Enterprise Florida, the state’s economic development agency, organized the trade mission.
