North Florida Congresswoman Gwen Graham wants more support for Floridians living in rural poverty.

Graham is partnering with California Representative Barbara Lee to raise awareness about the challenges of living in rural poverty. Graham is calling for the Department of Agriculture to expand its Rural Poverty Strike Force to Florida. Graham says the program could help connect rural counties to social services, quality education and healthcare.

“It’s unacceptable for one in every four Americans to live in poverty in any part of our country and we must do more to help rural families break the cycle of poverty and move into the middle class,” she said.

Graham made special note of Gadsden County, where over 26% of the population lives in poverty. Since 2010 the Strike Force has worked to assist economically challenged areas.
