Renovations Underway At Animal Services Center

Renovations at the Tallahassee Animal Service Center mean the agency will be offering limited services Wednesday through Saturday.

The updates at the center are expected to include new flooring, paint and larger kennels for adoptable cats. Animal Control Supervisor Jeff Doyle says the changes should help to keep animals healthy.

“They really end up with kind of four distinct areas, where in our older kennels it was literally just a square kennel. Some of them had just one upper perch. Cats like to sit high so giving them the ability to do that and giving them the ability to have their litter in a different area is beneficial to them because as comfortable as we can make this for them the less stress they’re going to have and the less likely they’re going to get sick while they’re in our care,” Doyle says.

Officials say access to the kennels will be restricted through Saturday. Adoptable cats will be available at local Petco locations instead. Adoptable dogs will remain available at the animal services center and owners of lost pets should head to the shelter to look for their animals there.
