Quincy Music Theatre Awaits Funding From Lawmakers

The Quincy Music Theatre is up for a grant to help pay for its staff. But whether the organization will get that money is now up to the legislature.

Bill Mock, Manager of the Quincy Music Theatre, says his place is the only theater he knows in North Florida that offers live musicals exclusively. He says the theater gives community members a chance to show off their skills or enjoy art in action. And he says his group hosts a camp for kids. This year more than 50 attended.

“It’s a total theatrical experience for them from technical to set design to actually acting on stage,” Mock says.

Mock’s group applied for a grant from theArts in Education and Underserved Communities Panel. And while he’s says the theater has been added to the list of eligible recipients, that grant money isn’t guaranteed. Money for the projects are typically covered in the state’s budget each year, so Mock says his grant won’t be certain until lawmakers make the next fiscal year’s budget.
