A new poll shows Senator Marco Rubio and Congressman Patrick Murphy are in a dead heat in the race for Florida’s US Senate seat. The race is considered one of the most watched in the nation, offering Democrats a competitive chance to retake the Senate.

A recent Quinnipiac University poll shows the race between Republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Patrick Murphy is too close to call. Rubio has a slight edge with 49 points, over Murphy’s 47. But Rubio’s lead is within the margin of error, making it a statistical tie. The results show both candidates are mobilizing their party bases at almost equal rates, and they’re neck and neck among independent voters. Pollster Peter Brown says the race could come down to voter turnout.

“In a race like this, any of the demographics could make the difference. It’s so close. Any one of a variety of demographics could make the difference,” Brown said.

Florida’s competitive Senate seat is considered one of the few that could help Democrats retake control of the chamber.
