There’s a new trail northeast of Tallahassee. It runs through 2 miles of heavily wooded land near the corner of Thomasville and Proctor roads.
That area is in the district of Leon County Commissioner Bryan Desloge, who’s been pushing for more recreational options for the region since he was first elected some 11 years ago.
“This is going to fold into all the trail system we’ve got across town today,” he said during the grand opening ceremonies at the trailhead.
Plans are for the new trail to eventually link with an extended Miccosukee Greenway, Orchard Pond trail and a proposed trail parallel to Bannerman Road. Partners on the project included Judy Alexander with the Gulf Winds Track Club.
“I’ve already got ‘pies in the sky’ in my head about holding ultra marathons out here. So thank you for letting Gulf Winds be a part of it,” she said.
Other partners are the Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association and Chiles High School Cross-Country Team, which plans to train on the trail.
