The application period to fill a vacant seat on the Public Service Commission has closed.

The public service nominating council will have more than a dozen applications to sift through in the coming days.  Among those vying for an open seat are Representative Tom Goodson—a Republican from Rockledge and former chair of the Canaveral port authority.  Newberry Mayor Bill Conrad has also thrown his hat in the ring.  In addition to running a construction firm Conrad chairs the board of directors at the Florida Municipal Power Agency—an energy wholesaler for city owned utilities.

The council will send a slate of candidates to the governor who makes the final selection.  The vacancy opened up after Jimmy Patronis left the commission to accept the governor’s nomination as the state’s CFO.
