Due to storm damage and power outages, some Tallahassee residents are staying in local hotels. Even as football fans flock to the city for the first home game of the season, hotel owners say there’s plenty of room.
Local hotels could get crowded this weekend as Seminole fans from across the state descend on Tallahassee for the game against Charleston Southern. Those football fans will be staying in the same hotels that now house evacuees from Hurricane Hermine. But local officials say there’s enough rooms to go around. Lauren Pace is with the county’s tourism board.
“Based on what we have heard from hotels at this point, the majority of them do have availability and do not anticipate any problems,” she said.
Pace doesn't expect the city's 6,000 hotel rooms to sell out for this particular game.
“One of the things that does come into play here is the home opener is not a large game. So that definitely helps with any situations that could have been problematic,” she said.
Utility crews are working around the clock to restore power to all of Tallahassee.
